One of the greatest N64 games, as well as one of the greatest games ever across all platforms, GoldenEye 007 is now free, but not to everyone. Although the N64 didn’t perform as well in terms of sales compared to its rivals or even certain other Nintendo consoles, it, like every other Nintendo console, with the possible exception of the Wii U, has a very outstanding library filled with fantastic unique titles. One of the best instances of this is GoldenEye 007, which was rereleased this week for the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. You can play the re-release for free if you have Xbox Game Pass or Nintendo Switch Online. It is unclear how long it will be accessible through the two subscription services.

Why is GoldenEye 007 not free for everyone?

There is one additional restriction even if you check one of these boxes, at least if you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The game is accessible on both Xbox Game Pass tiers if you have a membership to the program. However, you will require the Expansion Pack, the top tier of Nintendo Switch Online, in order to access the game through that service.

An official description says, “Enter a world of espionage as Bond in GoldenEye 007. Your covert operation to stop the GoldenEye weapon satellite spans the globe-you’ll infiltrate underground bases, charge through a military train and slink around the depths of a jungle. Along the way, M will brief you on your objectives and Q Branch will support your efforts with an array of gadgets, but the ultimate success of this mission is yours alone. Save the day, then go for the gold in spy-vs-spy action locally or online in the four-player multiplayer mode and enjoy round after round of first-person competitive action.”
