Wakanda has had a significant impact on popular culture. Especially in the five years following the debut of Black Panther in 2018. Wakanda’s influence has also permeated the realm of video games, as Lost Ark will soon include a continent that has a striking resemblance to Wakanda. The patch notes for the Korean version of Lost Ark included various new photographs of the continent, which is known by the name Voldis. Voldis appears to be a significant reflection of Wakanda’s technological utopia. The markings on the statues there also strikingly resemble the costumes worn by both Black Panthers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Tweet included below has images of the continent that Fanbyte’s M.H. Williams posted on Twitter.

Lost Ark Voldis is a Wakanda-inspired map

Williams notes that the third image’s figure on the left also somewhat resembles Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal of Erik Killmonger. Both the character’s facial expression and even his hair have an uncanny likeness. Posters on ResetEra, including user Klyka, also noted the parallels. It’s not hard to see how much the two Black Panther films influenced this new setting. Klyka claims that the game’s developers had previously stated that Voldis will be inspired by Wakanda.

Wakanda has, of course, been existing much longer than 2018; it made its debut in Fantastic Four #52, which was released back in 1966. The nation had a significant role in Marvel’s books for more than 50 years prior to the debut of Black Panther, but it’s difficult to overestimate how much the film pushed the made-up nation into the public eye. It’s obvious that this also applies to video games, as Korean Lost Ark fans are finding out. The exact date that this new area will be included in the game in North America is unknown, so Lost Ark fans will just have to wait with anticipation.
