MultiVersus, a platform fighter from WB Games and creator Player First Games, will soon go offline, with a planned comeback in 2024. Last year, MultiVersus made its debut in the form of an Open Beta. Although it was already known that the game’s current Beta phase wouldn’t run indefinitely, Player First Games has now made it clear that MultiVersus’ online component will now completely shut down to make space for a full release.

MultiVersus Open Beta goes offline soon, but it is going to return in 2024

The game’s Open Beta will end on June 25th this summer, according to a statement released by MultiVersus director Tony Huynh today. As a result, Player First Games will temporarily suspend MultiVersus as they continue to develop it in secret for a 2024 relaunch. MultiVersus will still be available in offline and training modes even if it won’t be playable online after this point.

Huynh said, “Throughout our Open Beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience. And, we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us. Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus. We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.”

We’ll need to wait a bit more

Overall, this information has surprised a lot of MultiVersus enthusiasts. Many individuals have voiced dissatisfaction with WB Games for charging money for the MultiVersus Open Beta just to keep gamers out of this content they may have purchased for a certain amount of time in response to this statement. Others are simply surprised by this action. Because the majority of early access games usually transition seamlessly into their full versions. It remains to be seen whether Player First Games will make any changes to this policy in the upcoming days. But this choice is undoubtedly unexpected.
