Future updates to League of Legends will include a new game mode and a new map. In the mode, there will be four teams of two players compete against one another in a round-based deathmatch-style scenario. Since a 2v2v2v2 mode is obviously very different from anything else Riot Games has ever included in League, a new map will also be required to accommodate the four separate teams. Though it appears that we’re still some time away from seeing the real deal and receiving the new game mode, Riot recently teased gamers with some early explorations of what that new map might look like.
New League of Legends map is going to be 2v2v2v2
The aforementioned tease was included in the devs’ most recent video, which also covered topics like improved bot experiences, new champions, and reworks. Near the end of that video, League’s lead gameplay producer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles discussed the new maps and the mode.
Mireles said, “Now I want to give a little update on the 2v2v2v2 game mode, which we’re going to ship with the big summer event this year. We’re also building a completely new map from the ground up to support the mode. We can’t wait to hear what you think about it when you get to play it in a few months.”
Some League accounts also posted an image to Twitter later to help others who couldn’t see the entire film to fully grasp the ideas. It’s unclear if or how the map would vary as a battle progresses given that the game mode relies around declining numbers of teams as players are removed. But these concepts give an idea of what Riot is considering for this new map.
Several discussions have already been had on the 2v2v2v2 game mode. Riot stated at the time of the mode’s first announcement that it did not have many specifics regarding what the mode will entail beyond the squad makeup but did provide some general information on what was anticipated.
